Saint Catherine Laboure and the Miraculous Medal
By Alma Power Waters
Vision Book Series of Saints for Youth 9 - 15 years old.
For more than a hundred and fifty years the Miraculous Medal has been known and worn by Catholics throughout the world. It has been used and promoted by great saints and Popes as a most powerful sacramental. Less well known is the story of the French Sister to whom the Blessed Virgin manifested the Medal in 1830. This Vision Book tells the story of Catherine Labouré, a Burgundy farm girl who, after a prophetic dream of St. Vincent de Paul, became a Sister of Charity in Paris and later in Enghien, where she cooked and mended and cared for the inmates of a home for elderly men. To this obscure Sister the Blessed Virgin appeared, made prophecies, and commissioned the making of the Medal which soon came to be known as "miraculous" because of the favors wrought. St. Catherine Labouré lived a life of prayer and service to the poor, and was canonized in 1947.

The Miraculous Medal
The Story of Our Lady's Appearances to St. Catherine Laboure'

By Mary Fabyan Windeatt

"Sister, it couldn't have happened!" declared the priest. "It was all a dream, like the other time." But Sister Catherine was sure she had truly seen Our Lady. And then Our Lady came again! Would the priest ever believe her--and would he ever have the Medals made, as Our Lady has asked? Here are the answers and the wonderful story of what happened when the Blessed Virgin Mary came to St. Catherine Laboure.

Catherine Laboure - Visionary of the Miraculous Medal
A narrative account of Catherine's life translated from the French
By Rene Laurentin
René Laurentin, widely recognized as a leading authority in Marian studies, recounts the life of Catherine Labouré in this meticulously researched biography. Catherine Labouré: Visionary of the Miraculous Medal presents the fascinating and inspiring story of the French Sister of Charity who became the focus of much popular devotion after it became known that the Virgin Mary appeared to her three times in 1830. St. Catherine Labourés story of courage and holiness is unforgettable, and her quiet life of service is an extraordinary example of how God can enter our lives and dwells in our hearts.
This detailed and well-researched depiction of Catherines life and sanctity is also engaging and accessible. An inspiring read for anyone with a particular devotion to St. Catherine Labouré or an interest in mysticism, this book will also touch anyone who admires courage, faith, and kindness.
